Alport Group Wealth Management is an independent financial management company whose sole purpose is to help our clients manage their wealth. The term wealth can mean different things to different people. To us, it simply means the money we accumulate for later use.
Steve grew up in Regina Saskatchewan while spending the majority of his summers at Katepwa Beach. Graduating from Campbell Collegiate, Steve went on to attend post-secondary at the University of Regina and University of Saskatchewan.
His very first job was in Sasktel Data Services, but Steve knew he wasn’t cut out for the data services industry. He completed the securities course and found his calling in the financial industry, never looking back at the data services life he left behind.
Steve went on to work at Pemberton Houston Willoughby and Nesbitt Burns. After working with the large firms for many years Steve felt that he had to start his own independent firm so he could worry about making money for clients and not a firm.
Steve’s mentors are Ben Graham and Warren Buffett, quite suitable for a value investor. Giving back is always an important part of business, in the past he’s been a part of Kinsmen, coached minor sports, and was the District Executive of IDA (Investment Dealers Association). Steve has also been a past Chair of Telemiracle and Big Valley Jamboree (Craven).
In his spare time he plays hockey, reads, frequents Katepwa Lake and he also plays not one or two instruments, but four; guitar, drums, piano, ukulele. His favorite band, song and sports team is the Beatles, Imagine and the Riders, respectively. He is also a big fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, but try not to hold that against him.
We have recently taken on James as a junior partner at Alport Group. James Alport is a student at the University of Regina working on his undergrad in Business Administration, majoring in Finance. His duties at Alport Group include
preparing quarterly client statements, managing the website with the help of JephMaystruck.com and managing the @alportgroup twitter account.
James is very intrigued by finance and is excited to learn from Steve’s wealth of knowledge on the subject. He will be entering his fourth year at the University of Regina in the fall and we will continue to keep him on throughout the summer and into his final year.
He is a very avid sports enthusiast, playing competitive hockey throughout his life. He also spent 4 years playing for the Regina Thunder Football club in the CJFL and still enjoys a game of tennis. He spends his spring coaching football to young kids through the Football Saskatchewan flag football league.
